The Benefits of Using Dental Floss

Flossing is the most effective tool for cleaning teeth and preventing decay. 
To prevent contamination of the mouth doctors recommend daily flossing at least once a day because the germs and bacteria accumulate right under the gums and between the teeth.

Dental flossing is not just to remove food from between the teeth; even when no food is stuck between your teeth, it’s still necessary to use dental floss daily to remove the sediment from the saliva. Using a mint flavored dental floss keeps your mouth cool and fresh between eating.

Researchers have found that flossing can help prevent heart attack or stroke as well. Using dental floss can also reduce many gastrointestinal diseases because it significantly reduces the number of bacteria that enters the body.

The advantages of using dental floss start as of the first day. Negligence in flossing every day is negligence in maintaining a healthy teeth and gums.

How to Hold a Dental Floss

Cut about 15 to 20 inches of Orkid Dental Floss, using regular or thin, proportional to the distance between your teeth; and wrap its two ends around your middle fingers. Make sure you’ve good grip of the floss.

To clean the upper teeth, slowly push the floss between your teeth with your thumb, then, carefully slide the floss under the gums, and bend it around each tooth, and by gently moving it up and down, effectively remove the harmful plaques and bacteria.

To clean the lower teeth, you repeat the same action as for the upper teeth after pushing the floss between your teeth with your index finger.

Very Important Tips on Flossing

Enter the dental floss from one side of the wall and then remove it from the front wall; which means, the floss takes a full circle between the two adjacent teeth.

Be sure to pull the dental floss between the gum and teeth to clean them thoroughly. If you’re new in using dental floss, for the first few times, you might experience some bleeding from your gum lines but it will stop soon after your gums are clean. However, if the bleeding continues, it could mean that your teeth are due to be cleaned professionally by a dentist.

Three problems may cause the floss be threading or tearing when flossing. The first is having tooth decay in the area, the second is having accumulated germs along the gum lines, and the third is having an uneven and inadequate filling. In all three cases, you need to see your dentist to take care of the problem/s for you.

The best time to floss is in between brushing. That is when the toothpaste has foamed up by putting the brush aside momentarily and floss the teeth clean and then continue with the brushing. However, if you do not have the patience to do so, it would be best to floss before brushing, then rinsing the mouth with fresh water to wash the extras, and finish with brushing and rinsing again.
